Spanning the entire city state of Singapore, the Mass Rapid Transit system in Singapore was incorporated in 1987 and operates a total of 102 stations, serving more than 1.6million passengers daily. Service operates from 5.30am and ends before 1am daily with intervals of approximately three to eight minutes. Fares are calculated based on the distance between the start and end destination stations and paid by using electronic data-storing tickets which can be purchased over the ticket machines or at service counters.

Public buses are one of the best modes for those who wish to catch the city sights. With almost 97% of the buses air-conditioned to provide cool travel in sunny Singapore, they complement the MRT and LRT system for easy access to many places island-wide.

Taxis are widely available on the streets and offer the convenience of point-to-point transfers. You can hail a taxi along the road, queue for one at a taxi stand or make a phone booking (booking fee applies). Taxi fares are charged by the taxi meter and are based on a flag down rate (ranging from S$3.00 to S$5.00 depending on type of taxi) and the distance travelled. Surcharges may also apply and vary between taxi companies during peak periods and at selected pickup points.
