Dorsett Wanchai, Hong Kong – an award-winning 4.5-star hotel, located just right opposite the iconic Happy Valley Racecourse – is delighted to announce its recognition as the  Silver certified hotel for two consecutive years by Earthcheck, the world's leading scientific benchmarking, certification and advisory group for travel and tourism based in Australia.

Dorsett Wanchai completed a top-to-bottom renovation in 2016, offering a seamless blend of modern design in all 454 100%-smoke-free rooms and suites, with sustainable hotel amenities and practices. The hotel provides guests with free shuttle bus service on a daily basis to multiple tourist destinations, including Times Square, Central (where Hong Kong Airport Express Line is) Admiralty and more, in its effort to reduce carbon footprint while providing convenience to its guests.

“Dorsett Wanchai received its first EarthCheck’s Bronze logo in 2017. We’re extremely proud of being awarded the Silver Certification from EarthCheck the following year of joining. Responsible tourism has always been the centre of our business. This accolade reflects our steadfast commitment to sustainability, by making positive changes to reduce our environmental footprint and improve social impact.” Said Anita Chan, the General Manager of Dorsett Wanchai, Hong Kong.

EarthCheck is the world’s leading scientific benchmarking, certification and advisory group for travel and tourism. Dorsett Wanchai achieved a Silver certification as a result of meeting the requirements of the EarthCheck Company Standard 3.5, which assesses the hotel based on its environmental, social and economic performance.

As part of the certification process, the hotel was assessed by an independent third-party auditor who appraised the hotel against the key performance areas of sustainability approach, such as energy, water, solid waste, land use planning, sustainable materials & resource conservation, indoor environmental health & pollution control, transport, social, cultural & economic wellbeing and innovation based on operational data collected over a year.

Over the years, Dorsett Wanchai has launched several green measures and the latest addition is Dorsett Ecovalue+. This program encourages guests to opt out of the full housekeeping service in exchange for a one-time fully-stocked minibar. “We want to let our guests know that being environmentally friendly doesn’t mean cost-saving or compromising on comfort, but a value-added stay experience instead,” she continues.

“This award summarizes our commitments to take creative yet practical action to provide a memorable yet eco-friendly holiday experience for our guests. We will continue to support the environmental efforts and achieve Gold certification in another year.” Said Anita.
