Discover Labuan; the Pearl of Borneo

Opened in 2013, Labuan International Golf Club (LIGC) is the new exciting 18-hole championship golf club in Labuan. Set amidst over 200 acres of lush landscapes and natural surroundings, golf enthusiasts will appreciate both the challenge and the attractive scenery of this Par 72 course.

LIGC boasts first-class practice facilities with a 16-bay driving range, practice greens and bunker. 

The Labuan Marine Museum specialized in marine life exhibition and it is the first museum of this concept in Malaysia. Visitors can explore various aspects such as marine biodiversity, shipwrecks, and the significance of Labuan as an international offshore financial center. The Labuan Marine Museum consists of two levels of galleries. The interior design of the gallery is inspired from the naval ship structure. The lower level is divided into 4 sections which begin from the marine life exhibition showing various species of local fish in Labuan, information section showing facts of the 4 famous shipwrecks in Labuan water, coral and fish section. The main attraction of the gallery is the 100 years old, 42-foot skeleton of an Indian Fin whale found on Sebatu Beach, Malacca. It was once exhibited in Raffles Museum, Singapore and the National Museum of Malaysia before transported to the Labuan Marine Museum. 

Labuan Peace Park is a serene and historically significant site, commemorating the end of World War II in the Asia-Pacific region. The park features beautifully landscaped gardens and poignant memorials, creating a peaceful atmosphere for visitors to reflect on the past. Surrender Point, within the park, holds great historical importance as at this very spot on Monday 10th September 1945, Lieutenant General Masao Baba, Commander of the 37th Japanese Army, surrendered the forces under his command and handed his sword over to Major General George Wootten, Commander of the 9th Division of the Australian Imperial Forces. The official surrender ceremony that took place here in a small wooden shack that afternoon marked the end of World War II in Borneo. This pivotal moment signified the conclusion of hostilities in the region and the beginning of a new era of peace. Together, Labuan Peace Park and Surrender Point serve as reminders of the enduring value of reconciliation and the quest for global harmony. 

The water village is basically a Malay fishing village with all the houses built on stilts out into the Labuan Harbour. There's an intricate network of raised concrete paths along which visitors can explore the water village. Many of the houses are beautiful, adorned with vibrant colors and intricate designs, immaculately maintained and featured many small plants, shrubs and flowers. Entrance is free and there is ample parking at the roadside at the entrance to the water village. 

Patau-Patau Water village is so named because it built along the water’s edge. The village houses, which are quite spacious, are all made out of wood and are raised on high stilts. A long wooden walkway connects every house in the village, and most houses have a boat for transport. Visitors are more than welcome to roam around and pay a visit to the village.

Patau-Patau Water Village residents, who are mostly Brunei Malays, are all very friendly. Some host families will even welcome you with local treats. The village has seafood restaurants, shops, and water sports for tourists.  The village is accessible by road and parking is available for a nominal fee. Explore the village either by concrete walkway or a wooden bridge. 

Situated on the west coast of Labuan, Pantai Layang Layangan is part of a group of beaches known as the United Nations Beach or UN’08. This accreditation comes after the 6km stretch between Layang Layangan and Surrender Point was awarded the United Nations Cleanest Beach Award in 2008. 

True to its name, the long stretch is spotlessly clean and is a favourite location to view the sunset.  However, the sand is bound to be filled with natural ‘art works’ by little sand crabs and other beach critters, making it a delight for nature-lovers. 

Facing the South China Sea, the beach is ideal for evening strolls and just relaxing amidst the sound of the waves. By evening, the beachfront boasts exciting party vibes and an energetic atmosphere with live music and great food at the string of restaurants. 

This is the largest war grave in Malaysia with 3,908 graves of fallen soldiers. Most were Australians, British, Indian, or New Zealanders. A memorial service is held on Remembrance Day every year, and visited by war veterans and families of war victims. The lawns are beautifully kept and visitors will appreciate the serenity of the place as they seek to understand the vanity of the death of so many brave young men. 

The Chimney is 106 feet high, and made from more than 23,000 imported red bricks. Believed to be a leftover from Labuan’s coal mining era, however no trace of smoke or ashes have been found, making The Chimney is very much a mystery that fascinates locals and visitors.

The Labuan Bird Park is a bird sanctuary enveloped by lush green tropical rainforest with a diverse habitat of insects, flora, and fauna. Three large domes are connected via four tunnels where the birds can roam freely in their natural settings, allowing visitors to get up close and personal. 

The four major wrecks in Brunei Bay off the coast of the Island of Labuan are among the best in South East Asia. For history buffs, two World War II wrecks are available. If you enjoy prolific marine life, the underwater oasis formed by the "Cement Wreck" and the "Blue Water Wreck" which were from 1980s, are not to be missed. 

No visit to Labuan is complete without a meal or two or three of its freshest seafood.  Get the great taste, quality and presentation of seafood dishes at reasonable prices. One of the best things about the restaurants is that you can request the staff to cook your food the way you want, no matter if you want the food to be cooked with spicy or non-spicy. Thus, if you have a specific preference of seafood dishes, Labuan is a place that will definitely not disappoint your taste buds. Just a reminder - the place is constantly packed, so remember to book your tables earlier!

Surrounded by the South China Sea, Labuan Island, together with its 6 other smaller islands are just perfect for island hopping. The islands, namely Rusukan Besar, Burung, Daat, Rusukan Kecil, Papan and Kuraman form the Labuan Marine Park. The water around these islands is crystal clear and so irresistible to snorkelers and divers. There are 3 well-known shipwrecks in the area, a clear attraction for wreck divers.
