【Sakai Cultural Experience】 Limited-Time Exhibition of Sakai’s Traditional “Kaisenhama Futon Taiko” at Hotel Agora Regency Osaka Sakai

As part of the Sakai Cultural Experience project, the traditional Sakai festival float “Kaisenhama Futon Taiko” will be exhibited at Hotel Agora Regency Osaka Sakai from June 7 (Sun) to August 22 (Sat), 2026, with the cooperation of the Osaka–Sakai Futon Taiko Council.

About the Kaisenhama Futon Taiko
The Kaisenhama Futon Taiko is one of Sakai’s traditional Sakai-style Futon Taiko festival floats dedicated to the Hassaku Festival of Sugawara Shrine in Sakai City. Believed to have been crafted in 1909, it is a historic cultural asset with a long-standing heritage.
Standing approximately 4 meters tall and weighing around 2 tons, the float is carried by about 60 bearers during festival processions.
Adorned with magnificent gold-thread embroidery and elaborate decorations, the Futon Taiko represents not only Sakai’s festival traditions but also the craftsmanship and artistic design culture that have been passed down through generations.
During the exhibition, visitors can also enjoy videos of the actual festival, offering an immersive introduction to Sakai’s vibrant festival culture.
On June 14, an unveiling ceremony will be held at Hotel Agora Regency Osaka Sakai, featuring a live carrying demonstration and traditional festival chants performed by local participants. Experience the energy, excitement, and powerful spirit of Sakai’s living traditions up close.


【Sakai Cultural Experience】 is a cultural initiative that shares the rich local heritage and traditional culture of Sakai with visitors from Japan and around the world.
As one of its signature programs, this exhibition introduces the Kaisenhama Futon Daiko, a symbol of the festival culture that has been passed down through generations in Sakai.
With its lavish gold-thread embroidery and ornate decorations, the Futon Daiko is admired not only as a festival float but also as an expression of the region’s craftsmanship and design traditions.
Sakai’s Futon Daiko culture has also been introduced to domestic and international audiences through events such as the G7 Osaka–Sakai Trade Ministers’ Meeting and is widely recognized as one of the city’s most iconic cultural traditions.
